Flyers check

Philadelphia Flyers fans' support for Oskar Lindblom during his battle against bone cancer is furthering the cause of finding a cure for Ewing's sarcoma.

Flyers Charities and the Sarcoma Foundation of America announced on Wednesday that they presented a $50,000 check to Dr. Margaret Chou, a cancer researcher at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Sales of #OskarStrong t-shirts and donations helped fund the grant, along with other fundraising initiatives.
Dr. Chou, who will be using the grant for research to find and enhance therapies for the rare bone cancer, also received a Lindblom jersey.
"I am truly grateful to be the recipient of this grant award in honor of Philadelphia Flyers player Oskar Lindblom," Dr. Chou said. "It is incredible how the Flyers community rallied behind Oskar and raised critical funds for Ewing's sarcoma research.
"My team and I are honored to be selected for this funding through SFA's international grant funding program. This funding helps us get one step closer to finding a successful therapy for Ewing's sarcoma patients not just in the Philadelphia region but around the world."
Lindblom announced he was cancer-free in December, 369 days after his diagnosis. Ewing's sarcoma is the second-most common type bone cancer in children, according to the SFA, but there are no specific targeted therapies for this subtype of sarcoma.
