20170618-expansion

Today the National Hockey League has released the expansion draft protection lists for all clubs, establishing which players are available to the Vegas Golden Knights to select.
The San Jose Sharks have chosen to protect seven forwards, three defensemen, and a goalie ahead of Wednesday's expansion draft.

Here is the complete list of players on the Sharks protection list:
Forwards:
Ryan Carpenter
Logan Couture
Jannik Hansen
Tomas Hertl
Melker Karlsson
Joe Pavelski
Chris Tierney
Defensemen:
Justin Braun
Brent Burns
Marc-Edouard Vlasic
Goalie:
Martin Jones
With no players with No Movement Clauses on the Sharks roster, there was no player the club was required to protect.
In addition to the players on the protection list, first- and second-year professional players are exempt from the expansion draft, which means players such as Joonas Donskoi, Timo Meier, Marcus Sorensen, and Kevin Labanc did not have to be protected.

"We are excited to welcome the Vegas Golden Knights to the National Hockey League and the Pacific Division," said Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson. "Per the guidelines that were set forth under the expansion draft rules, we have submitted our protected list to the National Hockey League. The reality is that we will be losing a player and quality person from our organization but whatever the outcome, we feel fortunate that we have a strong prospect pool with the San Jose Barracuda to help fill that loss."
The Vegas Golden Knights will select one player from each team for a total of 30 players, with a minimum of 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goalies. The Golden Knights have until Wednesday, June 21 at 7 AM PT to make and submit their selections, and the full roster will be revealed at the 2017 NHL Awards on Wednesday, June 21 at 5PM PT.
