Penguins forward Sprong healing from shoulder surgery

Injury sustained during Stanley Cup Playoffs could keep him out until February @NHLdotcom

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Daniel Sprong is expected to need 7-8 months to recover from surgery on his right shoulder, general manager Jim Rutherford said Friday.

Sprong was injured during the Stanley Cup Playoffs during his role as an extra skater.

Seven months would take Sprong into Januray of next season.

The Penguins selected Sprong, 19, in the second round (No. 46) of the 2015 NHL Draft and he made the opening-night roster. He had two goals in 18 games, and 16 goals and 46 points in 33 games with Charlottetown of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. After his junior season ended, Sprong had seven points in 10 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League during the Calder Cup Playoffs.
