Patric Hornqvist shares Cup in Sweden's capital

The Stanley Cup was in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday to join Patric Hornqvist for his day with the trophy.
The Pittsburgh Penguins forward and his wife Malin started their day in his hometown of Sollentuna, Sweden by putting their 2-year-old daughter Isabella in the 124-year-old trophy.

Hornqvist made a 12-mile trip from Sollentuna to Sweden's capital for a public gathering where fans could see and have their picture taken with the Cup. Hornqvist drove himself to the event with the Cup sitting shotgun for the ride.

Thousands of fans lined up at the Hovet Arena in the Johanneshov region of Stockholm, where Hornqvist played for Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Hockey League from 2005-08 and 2012-13 during the NHL lockout, waiting for more than an hour for the chance get a glimpse of the Cup.
"This is fantastic, really fun," Hornqvist said. "There's a lot of people I know from the past, and people I have never met before. All faces … it's a lovely mix of people."

After the public gathering, Hornqvist took the Cup for dinner, with a crowd of more than 100 family and friends in the Djurgarden section of Stockholm.
Hornqvist had 22 goals and 51 points in 82 regular-season games and nine goals and 13 points in 24 Stanley Cup Playoff games for Pittsburgh. He had two goals in six Stanley Cup Final games, and his empty-net goal with 1:02 remaining in Game 6 sealed the Penguins' 3-1 win against the San Jose Sharks and the championship for Pittsburgh.
"It was some extra heartbeats there, but at the same time there was also a little too much time left," Hornqvist said of the goal. "Had there been 20 seconds left, then it had been a done deal. You can't score twice in 20 seconds, but in a minute you can."
The Penguins right wing is gearing up for the World Cup of Hockey 2016. Hornqvist is on Team Sweden at the event, which will run from Sept. 17-Oct. 1 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, and has already started preparing for training camp, which begins Sept. 5 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Sweden's first preliminary game will be against Team Finland on Sept. 8 in Helsinki (Noon ET; ESPN3, Sportsnet, TVA Sports).
"It will be fun," Hornqvist said. "It was a short summer. I took up training again in early July and went on the ice in early August, but it's worth it."
