Bettman-Centennial 12-18

NEW YORK/TORONTO -- On the 99th anniversary of the first games played in National Hockey League history, the League announced Monday the year-long content initiatives that will bring its Centennial celebration to life in stories, statistics, images and more in 2017.
On December 19, 1917, the Montreal Canadiens defeated Ottawa, 7-4, at Dey's Arena in Ottawa and the Montreal Wanderers trimmed Toronto, 10-9, at Westmount Arena in Montreal, in the first-ever NHL games played. Replicas of the score sheets are below, providing just a sample of the information that will be available as the NHL honors its treasured history and tradition.

The League will launch the site NHL.com/100, the central hub of all NHL® Centennial news, content, videos and images, on Jan. 1. This dedicated microsite will house daily editorial coverage, video content featuring rare footage, plus dedicated features, photo collections, player biographies and information about the NHL Centennial Fan Arena and NHL Centennial events.
The 100 Greatest NHL Players will be a main feature of the Centennial content available on NHL.com/100. Original video vignettes for each player will feature rare footage, as well as interviews with players, their contemporaries, general managers, coaches and other personalities. The 33 members of the 100 Greatest NHL Players who played primarily during the NHL's first half century (1917-1966) will be announced on Jan. 1 during a special pre-game ceremony at the Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic™ in Toronto. Following the announcement, the most memorable photos, new bios and video vignettes of those players will be posted on NHL.com/100.
On Jan. 27, the remaining 67 players (who played predominantly from 1967 through to present) will be announced at THE NHL100™, a star-studded event open to the public during NHL® All-Star Weekend. Following the announcement, the entire collection of the 100 Greatest NHL Players will be available on NHL.com/100.
Additional long- and short-form content creations will help tell the compelling story of a century of NHL hockey:
Top 100 Moments: During the summer of 2017, fans will begin voting to determine the Top Moment in NHL history through a bracket-style countdown. The fans' favorite will be announced at an NHL event in November, 2017.
Documentaries: The League is producing two original, 90-minute documentaries scheduled for release in 2017: "The Stanley Cup®" (March, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the donation of the Stanley Cup®) and "100 Years of the NHL" (November, to honor the League's 100th birthday). "The Stanley Cup®" will deliver an all-encompassing, emotional look at the meaning of sports' most prestigious trophy to the players, their family members and hometowns. "100 Years of Hockey" will chronicle the history of the League in four acts, each produced by a different Executive Producer. The four acts include: The Early Years (1917-1941); The Original Six™ (1942-1967); The Great Expansion (1967-1992); and Expanding the Footprint (1992-present).
Centennial Memories (This Date in NHL History): Daily content will include video, images, documents and stories commemorating historical events that happened each day throughout the calendar year.
#NHL100: Content will be shared with fans daily across the League's social media platforms utilizing this evergreen hashtag. Photos and videos captured on-site at the NHL Centennial Fan Arena as it travels to each NHL market in 2017 will be shared across the League's social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.
NHL Centennial Fan Arena RSVP PROGRAM - Starting today, fans attending the Centennial Fan Arena in their local market will be able to RSVP at
