Milestone night for Staal

Jordan Staal will play his 1,000th regular-season game in the NHL when the Carolina Hurricanes host the Detroit Red Wings (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, BSSO, BSDET+, NHL.TV). Staal won the Stanley Cup in 2009 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who selected him with the No. 2 pick in the 2006 NHL Draft. He's scored 566 points (238 goals, 328 assists) in 999 games with the Penguins and Hurricanes and was named Carolina's captain prior to the 2019-20 season. The 32-year-old has scored 29 points (13 goals, 16 assists) in 38 games this season for the Hurricanes, who are tied for first in the eight-team Discover Central Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning. -- Tracey Myers, staff writer

Blue Jackets move on after trades

The Columbus Blue Jackets traded forward Nick Foligno to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a three-team deal Sunday for a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. The home game against the Chicago Blackhawks (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, BSOH, NBCSCH, NHL.TV) will be Columbus' game without their former captain. The Blue Jackets also traded defenseman David Savard to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a three-team deal Saturday and forward Riley Nash to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday. The Blue Jackets will also be without defenseman Zach Werenski, who is expected to be out for the remainder of the season with a sports hernia. Between the trades and missing one of their top defensemen, it will be interesting to see if the Blue Jackets, who've lost two straight and are 2-8-1 in their past 11 games, remain competitive in the eight-team Discover Central Division. Columbus is seventh, nine points behind the fourth-place Nashville Predators. The top four teams make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. -- Rob Reese, fantasy editor

Streaking Maple Leafs face skidding Canadiens

The Maple Leafs, who lead the seven-team Scotia North Division, are 9-0-1 in their past 10 games and bring a six-game winning streak into their game at the Montreal Canadiens (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, TSN2, RDS, TSN4, NHL.TV). Toronto forward Auston Matthews has scored 16 points (10 goals, six assists) in his past nine games and leads the NHL with 31 goals. Jack Campbell of the Maple Leafs won his 11th straight game Saturday to pass Montreal's Carey Price -- who will be unavailable for the fourth straight game with a lower-body injury -- for the longest winning streak by an NHL goalie to start a season (Price had 10 in 2016-17). The Canadiens' 5-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, their second in a six-game homestand, was their third consecutive defeat. They've been outscored 12-4 since losing forward Brendan Gallagher to a broken thumb. -- Dave Stubbs, columnist

Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman has scored six points (two goals, four assists) in a four-game point streak.
Winnipeg Jets at Ottawa Senators, 7 p.m. ET (TSN5, RDS2, TSN3, NHL.TV)
Connor Brown looks to extend the longest goal streak in Senators history to eight games, which would be the longest in the NHL since Mike Green scored in eight straight in 2008-09.
Arizona Coyotes at Colorado Avalanche, 9 p.m. ET (ALT2, BSAZ, NHL.TV)
The Avalanche have won two straight and are 7-1-0 in their past eight games after a 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Colorado center Nathan MacKinnon has scored 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in a nine-game point streak.
Vegas Golden Knights at Los Angeles Kings, 10 p.m. ET (BSW, ATTSN-RM, NHL.TV)
The Golden Knights are 3-1-0 in their past four games after a 1-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday. Vegas forward Max Pacioretty needs one goal to reach 300 in the NHL.
Anaheim Ducks at San Jose Sharks, 10:30 p.m. ET (NBCSCA, KCOP-13, BSW+, NHL.TV)
Anaheim has scored one power-play goal in its past 18 opportunities and 11 games. The Ducks are last in the NHL on the power play (11.0 percent).
St. Louis Blues at Minnesota Wild, postponed
