Getzlaf, Ducks seek milestones

It could be a special night for the Anaheim Ducks when they host the Washington Capitals on Tuesday (10 p.m. ET; SN360, BSW, NBCSWA, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). The Ducks (9-4-3) try for the 1,000th win in their history and can extend their winning streak to eight games. They have the longest current winning streak in the NHL, which is fourth longest in their history, behind runs of 11-0-0 in 2015-16, 10-0-0 in 2013-14 and 8-0-0 in 2013-14. In addition, Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf is one point shy of 1,000 in the NHL (280 goals, 719 assists in 1,117 games). He is looking to become the 92nd player to score 1,000 points in the NHL and 45th to do so with one franchise. Getzlaf is tied for third in the NHL this season with Edmonton Oilers center Leon Draisaitl with 16 assists and tied for 10th with 17 points. End of the road for Islanders

The New York Islanders finally reach the end of their 13 consecutive games on the road to start the season when they visit the Florida Panthers on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU, NHL LIVE). It will be the third of 24 straight games in the Eastern time zone, including 15 at UBS Arena, which they'll christen against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The time spent away from home that included crisscrossing the continent for the first 10 games took its toll on the Islanders, who are 5-5-2 and last in the eight-team Metropolitan Division after a 4-1 loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. New York's power play continues to be a major issue. It's 4-for-31 (12.9 percent) this season, 29th in the NHL, with two shorthanded goals against, and 0-for-11 in its past five games. The Panthers (10-2-3) are first in the Atlantic Division despite a 0-2-2 road trip following a 10-0-1 start to the season.. -- Jon Lane, staff writer

Hurricanes roll with the changes

Before the preseason began, Carolina Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said losing 10 regulars from their 2020-21 roster was a concern. Well, so far the Hurricanes have done just fine despite the turnover; they're 11-2-0 and tied with the Capitals for first in the Metropolitan Division entering their game at the Vegas Golden Knights (10 p.m. ET; ATTSN-RM, BSSO, ESPN+, NHL LIVE), who are 9-6-0. Defenseman Tony DeAngelo is third on Carolina with 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) in 13 games. Another offseason addition, goalie Frederik Andersen, is 9-2-0 with a 1.78 goals-against average, .938 save percentage and one shutout. Tuesday schedule

Nashville Predators at Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m. ET; TSN4, BSSO, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Captain Roman Josi and forward Matt Duchene have helped the Predators (9-5-1) win four of five (4-0-1) and eight of 10 (8-1-1). Josi has two four-point games this season and has scored 16 points (six goals,10 assists) in 15 games. Duchene has scored four goals in three games and leads Nashville with nine. The Maple Leafs (10-5-1) have won three straight and eight of nine (8-1-0). Toronto forward Ondrej Kase has scored one goal in each of his past three games.
New York Islanders at Florida Panthers (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU, NHL LIVE)
Ilya Sorokin is expected to start for the Islanders after goalie Semyon Varlamov made 24 saves in a 4-1 loss at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. The Panthers open a four-game homestand; they are 7-0-0 at FLA Live Arena this season, outscoring opponents 33-16.
Montreal Canadiens at New York Rangers (7 p.m. ET; MSG, TSN2, RDS, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Canadiens (4-11-2) have one win in their past six games (1-3-2). The Rangers (9-3-3) have won three in a row but will be without forward Sammy Blais, who is out for the season after sustaining a torn ACL in his right knee during a 4-3 shootout win against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.
Calgary Flames at Philadelphia Flyers (7 p.m. ET; SN1, NBCSP, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Flyers (7-4-2) will be without defenseman Ryan Ellis, who sustained an undisclosed injury in a 5-2 loss at the Dallas Stars on Saturday and is week to week. He had missed nine games before Saturday with a lower-body injury. The Flames (8-3-4) have six road wins, tied with the Rangers and Minnesota Wild for most in the NHL.
Buffalo Sabres at Pittsburgh Penguins (7 p.m. ET; ATTSN-PT, MSG-B, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Sabres (6-6-2) are 1-5-1 in their past seven games and remain without goalie Craig Anderson, who has an upper-body injury. The Penguins (5-5-4) have lost two straight and are 2-5-2 in their past nine games. They are last in the NHL on the power play (8.7 percent).
Arizona Coyotes at St. Louis Blues (8 p.m. ET; BSMW, BSAZ, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Arizona (1-13-1) concludes a three-game road trip hoping to end a three-game losing streak when they've been outscored 11-4. Coyotes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has scored seven points (two goals, five assists) in his past five games and forward Clayton Keller is one point shy of 200 in the NHL. Forward Vladimir Tarasenko has scored a game-tying goal in the third period in three straight games for the Blues (8-4-2), who have lost three straight (0-2-1).
San Jose Sharks at Minnesota Wild (8 p.m. ET; BSN, BSWI, NBCSCA, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
Defenseman Brent Burns has scored seven points (one goal, six assists) in his past five games for the Sharks (7-6-1), who are 1-3-1 in that span. The Wild (10-4-0) return from a three-game road trip (2-1-0).
Edmonton Oilers at Winnipeg Jets (8 p.m. ET; TSN3, SNW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
The Oilers (11-3-0) finish a five-game road trip (2-2-0) against the Jets (8-3-3); Winnipeg is 6-1-1 at home this season. Draisaitl leads the NHL in scoring with 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists) and captain Connor McDavid is second with 27 points (10 goals, 17 assists).
Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars (8:30 p.m. ET; ESPN+, HULU, NHL LIVE)
The Red Wings (8-7-2) play the second of a back-to-back set after a 5-3 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. The Stars (5-6-2) are looking to win consecutive games for the second time this season after a 5-2 win against the Flyers on Saturday.
Carolina Hurricanes at Vegas Golden Knights (10 p.m. ET; ATTSN-RM, BSSO, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
This is the start of a season-long six-game road trip for the Hurricanes, who are 5-1-0 away from home this season. The Golden Knights, winners of three in a row and 5-1-0 in their past six, play the fourth of a six-game homestand. Vegas forward Jonathan Marchessault has been placed on NHL COVID-19 protocol after scoring nine points (seven goals, two assists) in a six-game point streak.
Washington Capitals at Anaheim Ducks (10 p.m. ET; SN360, BSW, NBCSWA, ESPN+, NHL LIVE)
ForwardAlex Ovechkin has scored eight points (two goals, six assists) in a four-game point streak for the Capitals, who begin a four-game road trip. Ducks forward Troy Terry has scored 20 points (11 goals, nine assists) in a 14-game point streak, tied with McDavid for the longest active run in the NHL this season.
