Maple Leafs at Mammoth | Recap

SALT LAKE CITY -- Dylan Guenther scored twice and had an assist, and the Utah Mammoth ended the Toronto Maple Leafs’ 10-game point streak with a 6-1 victory at Delta Center on Tuesday.

Jack McBain scored and had two assists, and Michael Carcone, JJ Peterka and Daniil But each had a goal and an assist for the Mammoth (23-20-4), who are 4-0-1 in their past five games. Ian Cole had two assists, and Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves.

“Obviously, a really good game,” Utah coach Andre Tourigny said. “We liked the pace of our game, the speed we had, offensively and defensively, I think we attacked every shift with a lot of speed through the neutral zone, and a lot of pace, a lot of pressure on their 'D.'”

TOR@UTA: Guenther goes upstairs to double the lead in 2nd

Calle Jarnkrok scored, and Dennis Hildeby made 34 saves for the Maple Leafs (23-16-7), who were 8-0-2 during their point streak.

“They had a lot of energy and a lot of jump out there. They were quicker than us tonight, and it showed,” Toronto coach Craig Berube said. “This is a team loss. You know, we're all accountable for it. We've got to be better. We weren't good enough.”

Carcone put Utah up 1-0 at 3:22 of the first period when he finished a cross-ice pass from Nate Schmidt with a one-timer from the right face-off circle.

Guenther pushed the lead to 2-0 at 5:26 of the second period, burying a wrist shot short side on Hildeby from the left circle that bounced quickly off the back bar.

Guenther scored his second of the period just 1:18 later at 6:44 to make it 3-0. McBain skated into the offensive zone and dropped a pass to Guenther, who slipped a wrist shot glove side from the edge of the left circle.

It was his 50th goal as a member of the Mammoth, becoming first skater to reach the milestone in franchise history.

“I thought that we just played hard from the get-go, and then didn't let up,” Guenther said. “They had a pretty good push in the third for the first five or 10 minutes. And I mean, that's gonna happen, but I thought we responded well.”

TOR@UTA: Guenther scores his second goal of the game

Peterka made it 4-0 at 15:25 with a snap shot from the right boards that beat Hildeby through a screen.

Jarnkrok cut the deficit to 4-1 at 3:30 of the third period when he lifted the rebound from Oliver Ekman-Larsson's point shot that bounced off him over Vejmelka.

“I didn't really like our game from the start,” Ekman-Larsson said. “They came out and had the puck a little bit more, and it was hard to defend them. So we've got to be better.”

McBain extended it to 5-1 at 13:29. Guenther fed a backdoor pass to McBain at the left post, where he tipped it in off Hildeby's right pad.

The line of Guenther, McBain, and Carcone combined for eight points (four goals, four assists) and 19 shots on goal.

“I think they played hard and fast,” Tourigny said. “They were really fast in everything they did. They never slowed down. They were coming really fast. That’s three good skaters. I think it clicked. Sometimes, it’s tough to explain why; it just happens.”

But scored on a rebound in front off a Peterka shot from the right circle at 16:54 for the 6-1 final.

“It's been a good stretch,” Guenther said of his team’s performance during the first four games of a seven-game homestand (3-0-1). “I think we've talked about this stretch for a little bit, and have been looking forward to getting a little bit of time at home. So, it's nice to be getting points, and we play a really good team next game (Dallas Stars on Thursday), so just make sure that we're ready to go after a win like tonight.”

NOTES: Guenther’s two goals in 1:18 marked the fastest two goals by a Mammoth player in franchise history, besting Logan Cooley who had goals 1:50 apart on Oct. 23. He also scored his sixth game-winner of 2025-26, which now trails only Steven Stamkos (seven) for the most this season. ... Guenther has scored 15 game-winning goals since Utah entered the League last season, which leads the NHL over that span.
