TBL@PIT: Malkin notches 600th assist on Kessel's goal

Evgeni Malkin had two assists to surpass 600 in his NHL career, helping the Pittsburgh Penguins
win 4-2 against
the Tampa Bay Lightning at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday.

The Penguins, with 60 points (27-17-6) moved past the Columbus Blue Jackets (28-18-3, 59 points) and Washington Capitals (27-17-6, 60 points) into second place in the Metropolitan Division.
Malkin assisted on a first-period goal by linemate Phil Kessel and a second-period goal by defenseman Kris Letang, giving him 601 in 834 NHL games, all with Pittsburgh. He's the fourth player in Penguins history to reach 600 assists, joining Mario Lemieux (1,033), Sidney Crosby (741) and Jaromir Jagr (640). Malkin also reached 40 assists for the ninth time in his NHL career; in Penguins history Lemieux (12) and Crosby (11) have done it more often.
Malkin is the fourth NHL player born in Russia to reach 600 assists, joining Sergei Fedorov (696), Sergei Zubov (619) and Pavel Datsyuk (604). He reached 600 assists faster than any of his predecessors; Datsyuk (946 games played) had been the fastest.
Letang's goal was the 108th of his NHL career, all with Pittsburgh. He tied Hockey Hall of Famer Paul Coffey for the most by a defenseman in Penguins history. Letang already holds Penguins records for assists (371) and points (479) by a defenseman.

Bishop wins 11th straight against Sabres

Ben Bishop made 30 saves for his 27th NHL shutout and extended his personal winning streak against the Buffalo Sabres to 11 games when the
Dallas Stars won 1-0
at American Airlines Center.

Bishop has a 1.35 goals-against average, a .948 save percentage and two shutouts against Buffalo during the streak. It's the second-longest active streak by a goalie against any opponent; the Washington Capitals' Braden Holtby is 12-0-0 against the Boston Bruins since Oct. 11, 2014.
The only goalie with a longer winning streak against Buffalo is Bernie Parent, who was 14-0-0 from Oct. 22, 1970 - Feb. 1, 1975.
Stars captain Jamie Benn had the 43rd game-winning goal of his NHL career, tying Brenden Morrow for second place in Stars/Minnesota North Stars history behind Mike Modano (92).

Flyers go for sixth straight win

The Philadelphia Flyers will try to extend the longest active winning streak in the NHL to six games when they play the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, TVAS, NESN, NBCSP+, NHL.TV).
Philadelphia's 20-year-old rookie goalie Carter Hart is 4-0-0 in his past four starts; a win in his next start would make him the 14th goalie in NHL history to win at least five consecutive starts before turning 21. It's been done three times in the past 30 years: Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens was 7-0-0 from March 20-April 5, 2008; Dan Blackburn of the New York Rangers was 5-0-0 from March 30-April 8, 2002; and Jocelyn Thibault (Quebec Nordiques) went 8-0-0 from March 6-26, 1995.
