Facts and Figures: Ovechkin among NHL's best on 15-game days

The Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils will begin the 15th day in NHL history with 15 games on the schedule when they face off at Prudential Center on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; MSG+, FS-CR, NHL.TV). The Columbus Blue Jackets are the only team not in action.

There is one more 15-game day scheduled in 2018-19; every team except the Anaheim Ducks will play on April 6, the last day of the regular season.
The NHL's first 15-game day took place on Oct. 5, 2005, the opening night of the 2005-06 season. There were five in 2017-18 and one earlier this season (Nov. 23)

Team Scoring

The NHL record for most combined goals scored on a 15-game day is 99 (including shootout-deciding goals), set on Oct. 25, 2008. The League record for most combined goals scored on any day is 103 on Jan. 23, 1993, when 12 games were played.
There were 79 goals (5.3 per game) scored in the 15 games played on Nov. 23.
The most goals (including shootout goals) by one team on a 15-game day is eight by the Toronto Maple Leafs in an 8-5 win against the New York Rangers on Oct. 7, 2017.

Individual scoring

There have been 16 hat tricks scored on 15-game days, including one by Carolina forward Jordan Martinook on Nov. 23. Two players have scored four goals in a game; Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals did it on Oct. 7, 2017, and Mark Jankowski of the Calgary Flames on April 7, 2018.

Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov is the only player to have four assists on a 15-game day; he had an assist on each of Ovechkin's four goals on Oct. 7, 2017. There have been 32 three-assist games, including four this season.
In all, 12 players have had four points on a 15-game day. No one has had more.
Ovechkin has played in all 14 games and is the runaway leader in goals (19) and points (25) on 15-game days. Center Nicklas Backstrom, Ovechkin's longtime teammate with the Capitals, is second in points (18) and first in assists (15).

Individual goaltending

Washington's Braden Holtby is 8-2-0 on 15-game days and is the only goalie with eight wins. Five goalies are next with six: Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights (6-3-1), Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets (6-1-0) and Jaroslav Halak of the Boston Bruins (6-0-1) each got No. 6 on Nov. 23, joining Roberto Luongo (6-2-0) of the Florida Panthers, and Ryan Miller (6-0-2) of the Anaheim Ducks.
Pekka Rinne of the Nashville (4-0-0 in six games) and Thomas Greiss of the New York Islanders (4-0-0 in four games) are the only goalies with at least four wins and no losses.
A total of 20 goalies have made at least 40 saves on a 15-game day. The only one to make at least 50 was Cam Ward, then with the Carolina Hurricanes, who made 57 saves in a 4-3 win against the Islanders on Oct. 25, 2008. The 57th save came on a penalty shot by New York's Doug Weight with one second remaining in the third period.
