TORONTO - The Pepsi World Cup of Hockey Premiere Party will be televised live in prime time on Sept. 16. Hosted by actor Jay Baruchel, the 90-minute program will broadcast live from the Pepsi Live Main Stage at Scotiabank World Cup of Hockey Fan Village in downtown Toronto's historic Distillery District at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada and ESPN2 in the U.S.
The Pepsi World Cup of Hockey Premiere Party is the international tournament's opening celebration, headlined by global rock band The Killers and featuring performances by Canadian rockers Sam Roberts Band and singer/songwriter Daya. The festivities also will include a parade of players from each of the participating teams. The telecast will feature interviews with World Cup of Hockey players and other special guests.

Sportsnet kicks off its comprehensive coverage of the World Cup of Hockey 2016, delivering live English-language coverage of the Hockey Premiere Party in Canada. Hockey Night in Canada's Ron MacLean will host alongside former NHLer and Hockey Night in Canada analyst Kelly Hrudey, and Tara Slone from Rogers Hometown Hockey. TSA Sports will provide French-language coverage of the opening celebration as part of its Soirée de lancement Pepsi Coupe du Monde de hockey 2016 program.
The Premiere Party will be part of ESPN's two-hour World Cup of Hockey 2016 Preview Show from 7-9 p.m. ET on ESPN2. The preview show will feature player interviews by Barry Melrose. Adnan Virk will host with studio analysts and NHL Hall of Famers Brett Hull and Chris Chelios. ESPN's World Cup of Hockey team including Linda Cohn, Steve Levy, John Buccigross, Leah Hextall, Kevin Weekes and Darren Pang will report live from around Toronto during the telecast.

The Sept. 16 event will serve as the official opening of the Scotiabank World Cup of Hockey Fan Village, a 10-day free, family-friendly fan festival in the historic Distillery District. From Sept.16 to Sept. 25, Fan Village will occupy the Distillery District - renamed 'Distillery Fan Village' for the 10 days - plus more than 200,000 square feet of an untouched lot east of Cherry Street, which will be known as the 'East Fan Village.' Fan Village will celebrate not only the sport of hockey but the food, music and culture of all participating hockey nations and will feature a diverse mix of programming, designed for fans of all ages, including live musical performances, big-ticket prizes and giveaways, and viewing parties for every World Cup of Hockey game broadcast live on Pepsi Live Main Stage video screens. A paid ticket will be required for entry into East Fan Village on Sept. 16 for the Pepsi World Cup of Hockey Premiere Party and on Sept. 23 for the World Cup of Hockey Celebration of Champions featuring Green Day. Distillery Fan Village will be free and open to the public Sept. 17-25. East Fan Village will be free and open to the public Sept. 17-22 and Sept. 24-25.
Baruchel continues to cement his leading man status with many exciting projects on the horizon. He currently stars in the critically-acclaimed FXX comedy series MAN SEEKING WOMAN based on Simon Rich's book, THE LAST GIRLFRIEND ON EARTH and executive produced by Lorne Michaels. Baruchel is also the voice of 'Hiccup' in the DreamWorks HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON franchise. He co-wrote the film GOON with Evan Goldberg and was nominated for two 2013 Canadian Screen Awards (Canada's Academy Awards) in the Best Supporting Actor category and for Adapted Screenplay. Baruchel is now reprising his role in GOON: LAST OF THE ENFORCERS, which he also co-wrote and on which he made his directorial debut.
