Jakob Chychrun signs contract with Coyotes

Defenseman Jakob Chychrun signed an entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.
"It's an honor to sign with the Coyotes," Chychrun said in a statement. "I'm the first to understand that there's still a lot of work ahead of me, but this is an absolute dream come true to sign my first NHL contract."

Chychrun, who was No. 4 on NHL Central Scouting's final list of North American skaters, was selected by the Coyotes with the No. 16 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Arizona acquired the pick and forward Pavel Datsyuk from the Detroit Red Wings in a trade for a first-round pick (No. 20) and second-round selection (No. 53) at the draft on June 24.
A native of Boca Raton, Fla., Chychrun, 18, is the son of Jeff Chychrun and nephew of Luke Richardson, each a former NHL defenseman. Chychrun (6-foot-2, 205 pounds) spent the past two seasons with Sarnia of the Ontario Hockey League, when he had 27 goals and 82 points in 104 games and was named a second-team OHL All-Star in 2015-16.
