Henrik Lundqvist recipient of Victoria Scholarship

Henrik Lundqvist is known as "The King," and Thursday he was officially recognized by royalty in his native Sweden.
The New York Rangers goalie was the recipient of the Victoria Scholarship, which has been given annually on July 14 to a Swedish athlete or athletes since the Crown Princess of Sweden was born on that date in 1979.

Lundqvist is the first hockey goalie selected for the scholarship and joins Vancouver Canucks forwards Daniel and Henrik Sedin (2011), and former NHL forward Peter Forsberg (1994) and defenseman Stefan Persson (1980) as the only hockey players to win the award.
"I heard that I was nominated a while ago and was very happy and proud when I got the news that I had won," Lundqvist told the Swedish newspaper Olandsbladet in June. "This is a special prize where those who won are worthy winners."
Lundqvist, who helped Sweden win a gold medal at the 2006 Torino Olympics and a silver medal in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, was even nice enough to bring a gift to celebrate the Crown Princess' 39th birthday.
