Fantasy picks: Marian Hossa finds fountain of youth
Blackhawks forward should continue scoring touch, among Nov. 1 DFS targets against Flames
C -- Victor Rask, CAR at OTT ($5,700)
Rask had an assist in a 4-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday and the Carolina Hurricanes center has a point in each of his eight games this season. He has 10 points (four goals, six assists) and has had at least 4.0 DraftKings points in six of eight games. Rask, Carolina's top-line center, can be paired with left wing Jeff Skinner ($6,100; 11 points) and right wing Lee Stempniak ($4,900; six points) as a solid line-stacking combination. Rask is also a relatively cheap option who's produced the sixth-most fantasy points per game among centers and is a good play against the Ottawa Senators.
C -- Matt Duchene, COL vs. NSH ($6,300)
Duchene had two goals in a 3-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday and has five goals and seven points in his past five games. In seven games, the Colorado Avalanche center had at least three shots on goal in four of them. In Duchene's past four games, he's had the game-winning goal twice and at least 7.5 DraftKings points. Duchene draws a more than favorable matchup against the Nashville Predators, who have allowed 13 goals in their past three games and at least four goals in four of their past seven games.
W -- Jonathan Marchessault, FLA vs. BOS ($5,600)
Perhaps the surprise of the season, Marchessault went from a role player to playing on the top line for the Florida Panthers with Jaromir Jagr and Aleksander Barkov after Jonathan Huberdeau was injured. Marchessault has six goals (tied for first in the League) and 11 points (tied for third). He has a point in seven of nine games, including three multi-point games. Marchessault has also averaged more than three SOG per game, including five-plus three times. Marchessault faces the Boston Bruins at home, where he has three goals and seven points in four games this season.
W -- Marian Hossa, CHI vs. CGY ($4,800)
The 37-year-old Chicago Blackhawks wing and likely Hockey Hall of Fame member is competing like the player who's a 14-time 20-goal scorer and eight-time 30-goal scorer. Hossa, who scored his 500th NHL goal on Oct. 18, has three goals and seven points in eight games, including five on the power play. It was a difficult 2015-16 season for Hossa, who dealt with injuries and had 13 goals and 33 points, his lowest totals since his rookie season in 1998-99. Hossa has at least 3.5 DraftKings points in six of eight games this season and faces a suspect Calgary Flames defense.
D -- Zach Werenski , CBJ vs. DAL ($5,100)
Werenski has played more like a veteran than a rookie during his limited time in the NHL. He has two goals (each on the power play) and six points in seven games. In the two games Werenski didn't have a point, he had six shots and four blocks, proving his value even when he doesn't find the scoresheet. The Dallas Stars have allowed eight goals in two games and at least four goals in four of their eight games, which bodes well for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Werenski.
D - Alec Martinez, LAK vs. ANA ($4,600)
Martinez doesn't have a point in his past two games but has seven SOG and four blocks. In the four games before that, he had a point in each game (two goals, four assists). The Los Angeles Kings defenseman has averaged 4.2 DraftKings points per contest, and has 19 blocks and 24 SOG in eight games. Martinez gets to play the Pacific Division-rival Anaheim Ducks, who have one win in six road games (1-3-2).
G -- Devan Dubnyk, MIN vs. BUF ($8,100)
On a 12-game night, it may not be the best strategy to take one of the more expensive goalies but it's also hard to argue with Dubnyk. Priced as the fourth-most expensive at his position, the Minnesota Wild goaltender has shutouts in three straight games and was named the NHL's second star of the week after making 94 saves in wins against the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres and Stars. Dubnyk is 5-1-1 and averaging 6.3 DraftKings points per contest. He gets to face a lackluster Buffalo Sabres offense, which he shut out Thursday.
G -- Peter Budaj, LAK vs. ANA ($7,400)
If you're looking for a cheaper goaltending option, Budaj is a good pick. He's started each of the past six games for the Kings, who are without their No. 1 and No. 2 goalies, Jonathan Quick and Jeff Zatkoff, because of injuries. Budaj has gone 4-2-0 allowing 13 goals and has kept the Kings in every game. In his past two games, each losses, he's gotten 3.8 and 3.2 DraftKings points respectively, but Los Angeles has been shut out in each. That should change against Anaheim, making Budaj a decent play.
