Doc Emrick started the Wednesday Night Rivalry broadcast on NBCSN with a personal message about his battle with prostate cancer before the Philadelphia Flyers' Hockey Fights Cancer game against the Detroit Red Wings.

Emrick was back in Philadelphia to recall the moment he found out he had the disease 25 years ago when he was working as an announcer for the Flyers.
The Flyers wore lavender jerseys for warmups and gave out lavender T-shirts to fans in attendance for their 4-3 overtime win.

In 2014, Emrick explained how early detection made all the difference in a video for Fans for the Cure, an organization that promotes prostate cancer education and awareness.
