mcavoy bruins

Charlie McAvoy won't play for the Boston Bruins against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVAS, NESN, NHL.TV), because of a lower-body injury, Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said Monday.
Cassidy said McAvoy will be evaluated Monday afternoon.

The defenseman left the Bruins' 2-1 overtime win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday 37 seconds into the first period after appearing to be slashed on the right foot by Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher. He was with the Bruins for their team photo Monday but did not practice.

McAvoy, 20, has 32 points (seven goals, 25 assists) in 59 games and averages 22:06 of ice time per game, second on the Bruins to defenseman Zdeno Chara (23:11).
Cassidy also said goaltender Tuukka Rask also likely won't play Tuesday because of a lower-body injury. He did not practice Monday after serving as the backup to Anton Khudobin against the Canadiens on Saturday.
"Nursing a minor injury ... we'll keep an eye on that one," Cassidy said. "Not having skated now for three days, doesn't look like he'll be able to go tomorrow ... probably wants to get in a little work before he goes back in the net."
Rask has a 2.27 goals-against average that is third in the NHL among goaltenders to play at least 30 games. He's 26-11-4 with a .919 save percentage in 42 games.
The Bruins are second in the Atlantic Division, three points ahead of the third-place Toronto Maple Leafs.
