DALLAS --Curtis McElhinney made 24 saves for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 3-0 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

It is the second time Carolina has shut out Dallas in the past week. Petr Mrazek made 33 saves in a 3-0 win on Feb. 16.
"I was really proud of them today," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "That was a great game, really, from start to finish. Guys dug in. Again, everybody's contributing in some form or fashion right now."

Lucas Wallmark, Justin Faulk and Jordan Martinook scored for the Hurricanes (33-23-6), who have won eight of their past 10 games and hold the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
"This has been about as good as it gets right now," said McElhinney, who has two shutouts this season and 10 in the NHL. "It's been a lot of fun playing the second half here, especially after the break."

CAR@DAL: Wallmark puts home McKegg's pass

The Stars (30-26-5) have lost four of their past five games, including being shut out three times, and are tied with the Colorado Avalanche in points but hold the first wild card into the playoffs from the Western Conference, one point ahead of the Minnesota Wild. Ben Bishop made 28 saves in his first start since Feb. 4 because of an upper-body injury.
"I think we're trying, but we're not playing smart," Stars defenseman John Klingberg said. "We gave up two goals, and then we're chasing too much, not staying with our system and turning too many pucks over. It could have been 5-0 and, obviously, we're not that dangerous offensively either."
Wallmark gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 3:15 of the first period, scoring on a one-timer off a pass from Greg McKegg on a 2-on-1 after Warren Foegele's loft pass got past Stars defenseman Taylor Fedun.
"Give [Wallmark] credit, he had to play a lot of minutes and fill big shoes (in Jordan Staal's absence)," Brind'Amour said. "He did a great job for us. He did a good job and now it's good for him to not have that pressure that we had to put on."
Jamie Benn nearly tied it on a breakaway at 15:04, but his backhand shot hit the post.
Faulk scored on a 5-on-3 power play to give Carolina a 2-0 lead at 1:01 of the second period, beating Bishop blocker side on a wrist shot from the top of the right circle.
Dallas appeared to score at 19:11, but Blake Comeau was called for goalie interference.
"I had a couple body checks in the second period," McElhinney said. "Sometimes it helps to get you into the game. It was pretty quiet after that point. Those are certainly wake-up calls."

CAR@DAL: Faulk rips home a PPG to increase lead

Carolina outshot Dallas 20-10 in the first two periods.
"Their puck pressure was really, really good. That's why we weren't able to generate anything," Stars coach Jim Montgomery. "But when you're not skating, you're not making passes tape to tape, any adjustments you make -- we adjusted on the power play to a different power-play set and still couldn't make two passes in a row -- it even gets tougher when you're on top of your game 5-on-5."
Martinook scored an empty-net goal at 17:29 of the third period to extend the lead to 3-0. Staal, who was playing his first game since Dec. 22 (27 games) because of a concussion, had an assist on the play.
"Actually, surprisingly, I felt better as the game went on, which I was expecting the opposite," Staal said. "Just kind of got in the flow and the legs going a little bit. It was fun to be back."
