Toffoli's late goal helps Flames end 5-game skid

Tyler Toffoli scored with 6.2 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Calgary Flames ended a five-game losing streak with a 5-4 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday.

Toffoli received a stretch pass from Jonathan Huberdeau and shot over Jake Oettinger's glove on a breakaway.
"I took a peek at the red line, right around there, and saw that I had enough time to do whatever I wanted," Toffoli said. "Obviously, made the right choice."

Nick Ritchie scored in his debut for the Flames (28-23-13), who were 0-3-2 during the skid. Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves.
Calgary is five points behind the Colorado Avalanche, who have three games in hand, for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
"We always have to make it a tight game towards the end," Flames forward Elias Lindholm said. "It was nice to find a way and get some bounces towards the end. There hasn't been a lot of them this year. Nice to get the two points at the end."
Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist, and Max Domi scored his first goal for the Stars (34-17-13), who had won three straight and had their five-game point streak end. Oettinger made 33 saves.

Dallas remained three points ahead of the Minnesota Wild, who have one game in hand, for first place in the Central Division.
"They're all learning lessons, I think, for our group," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. "At the end of the day, I think you get what you deserve in this league most nights I find. I'm not sure we deserved to win tonight based on what we put out there for 60 minutes."
Roope Hintz cut the Flames' lead to 4-3 at 9:49 of the third period, scoring short-handed on a partial breakaway with a backhand that trickled over the goal line. It was his 30th goal of the season.
Benn tied it 4-4 at 14:12, redirecting Esa Lindell's point shot in front.
"We don't like to be in those positions, but we're comfortable being down," Stars forward Tyler Seguin said. "We know we've got a lot of belief in this group that we can come back in games. Obviously, that one hurts."

Ritchie, who was acquired from the Arizona Coyotes on Friday, gave Calgary a 1-0 lead at 3:53 of the first period, winning a battle with Benn and knocking in the rebound of Huberdeau's initial shot.
Nikita Zadorov made it 2-0 at 4:51 of the second period with a one-timer from the right circle off a cross-ice pass from Troy Stecher.
Jason Robertson cut it to 2-1 at 11:48 with a one-timer from above the right circle on a power play.
Domi tied it 2-2 at 15:42, finishing a centering pass from in front after Seguin intercepted a pass by Noah Hanifin below the goal line. Domi was playing in his second game with the Stars since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
"I think today we started pretty slow," Hintz said. "We weren't at our best at the beginning. I think that was on us. The next game we've got to come hard right away when it starts."
Lindholm put Calgary back in front 3-2 at 17:53. Hanifin's initial shot deflected off Lindholm, and as Miro Heiskanen tried to clear the puck out of the crease he inadvertently knocked it in off of Oettinger.
Rasmus Andersson extended the lead to 4-2 at 4:24 of the third period with a wrist shot over Oettinger's glove from the right circle.
"We played a pretty solid game," Ritchie said. "There was some back-and-forth with having a lead and giving it up. Good one in the end. I think we deserved to win that one."
