STL@CGY: Perron catches puck, scores on odd play

CALGARY --David Perron had a goal and an assist, and Jake Allen made 28 saves to help the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday.

Tyler Bozak and Oskar Sundqvist scored for the Blues (14-16-4), who won two of three games on a Western Canada road trip and are 6-4-1 in the past 11 games after winning once in their previous six.
"It's a great feeling for us, especially with how the year has gone," Allen said. "To be able to get two of three on this road trip, with three or four days off … if we would've lost this one, it would've been a tougher break thinking about that loss the whole time. It was a good way to finish."

Matthew Tkachuk scored, and Mike Smith made 24 saves for the Flames (22-12-3). Calgary has lost three straight (0-2-1) after winning 12 of its previous 15 games (12-2-1), which included a 7-2 victory against the Blues on Dec. 16.
"The bottom line is we've had a good season up until this point, but now we feel like going into the break, we're on a little bit of a slide," Flames captain Mark Giordano said. "We haven't won one in the last three. We'll go in, we've got to get our energy and our legs back, and it's a big game coming out of the break against Winnipeg."

STL@CGY: Sundqvist pots own rebound to pad lead

Perron scored at 4:06 of the first period with a short-side shot from just above the goal line to give St. Louis a 1-0 lead.
"I don't think anyone knew where the first puck was," Smith said. "Everyone kind of lost it and then all of a sudden, it was on the guy's tape. I didn't get set there and he beat me through the arm."
Bozak scored on a rebound of Pat Maroon's wraparound to make it 2-0 for a power-play goal at 11:43.
"Whenever I'm slumping a little bit, I try to get to the net as much as I can. Sometimes it only takes one goal, a rebound or something, to get going again," said Bozak, who has two goals in four games after going without one in 19 straight. "That's kind of how it's always been in my career and I know it works like that for a lot of guys, so it's nice to get one."

STL@CGY: Bozak pots rebound for power-play goal

Tkachuk scored seven seconds into a power play to cut the lead to 2-1 when he finished a passing play with Johnny Gaudreau and Elias Lindholm at 16:49 of the first.
Allen made a pad save on Gaudreau's backhand on a partial breakaway at 2:58 of the second period, and again on Gaudreau's rush at 7:42 to preserve the Blues lead.
"He's a guy that has a lot of tricks in his bag," Allen said. "It's really just trying to be as patient as you can, until you need to commit. He's been one of the best players in the League this year, hands down."

Sundqvist followed up his own rebound to make it 3-1 at 1:56 of the third period.
"I thought Jake was our best player in the second period for sure. He gave us a chance to win," Bozak said. "We've let him down quite a few times this year by not playing good defensively and giving up a lot of Grade A chances. It's nice for us to come out in the third and get a goal there and build on that lead. He played a great game for us."

They said it

"We rebounded really well against a really good team here in Calgary, probably one of the hottest teams in the League. They kicked our butt pretty good in our own rink a couple weeks ago. It's just going to be a good feeling now to have a couple days off and get a good practice in and get back." -- Blues goaltender Jake Allen
"If we take it upon ourselves to play our game, the way we want to play and can play, no team can come in here and play their style and beat us at their game, which they did tonight." -- Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk
