Al Montoya signs two-year contract with Canadiens

Goalie Al Montoya signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.
Financial terms were not released, but ESPN.com reported an average annual value of $1.0625 million.
"I'm just excited to be back," Montoya said. "It's a good group here. It's a chance to be something special and I just want to be a part of it.

"It's exciting. From the top down in this organization, it's probably the best one I've ever been a part of, and the way they treat you here, you can't ask for anything more. So for me, it's simple, go out there and play hockey and enjoy it."
Montoya, 31, is 4-4-2 with a 2.74 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in 11 games (10 starts). He signed a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and could have become an unrestricted free agent again at the end of the season. In his most recent start, Montoya made 31 saves in a 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers on Dec. 29.
"You know, you could find those goalies probably in April and May, so obviously that was based on performance and the way he's played," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said. "You saw the game in Florida, all of the guys were excited for him. He's a great teammate."
Selected by the New York Rangers with the No. 6 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, Montoya is 59-44-20 with a 2.61 GAA and .909 save percentage in 147 NHL games with the Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders, Winnipeg Jets, Florida Panthers and Canadiens.
