Logan Cooley of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team will file a monthly draft diary for NHL.com this season leading up to the 2022 NHL Draft on July 7-8. The 17-year-old center (5-foot-10, 174 pounds), No. 2 on NHL Central Scouting's midterm ranking of the top North American skaters, scored 65 points (24 goals, 41 assists), seven power-play goals and three shorthanded goals in 45 games.
Cooley will represent the United States at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Landshut and Kaufbeuren, Germany, April 23-May 1. He played one game with the United States at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship before the tournament was postponed Dec. 29. He is committed to attend the University of Minnesota next season.

We're ready for the Under-18s. It's been a fun past two weeks just gearing up for the tournament. We've been talking about the U-18 Worlds now that the United States Hockey League and college season schedule has ended. The focus has shifted to learning all the systems and getting used to the Olympic ice sheet again (in Germany) ... so it's been a good time.
We've mostly been focusing on our team speed. Practices are pretty tough; we're really getting up and down the ice rink. We just need to maintain a good balance and maintain game shape.
Coach Adam Nightingale has stressed to play the right way. I think in the past two years we've had ups and downs of playing the way we know how to play, and not playing the way we should, and it's cost us. I think with this almost being like a one-game elimination (in the medal round), you need to win every game. I think Nightingale's**
