1. Tristan Jarry's even-strength save percentage

Jarry's .929 even-strength save percentage was tied for third among NHL goalies (minimum 30 games played) with Philipp Grubauer of the Colorado Avalanche, behind Anton Khudobin of the Dallas Stars (.945) and Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins (.939). Jarry's strong performance at even strength helped contribute to an NHL career-high 20 wins in 31 starts, and he is expected to be Pittsburgh's No. 1 goalie this season after Matt Murray was traded to the Ottawa Senators on Oct. 7.

2. Evgeni Malkin's points per 60

Malkin led the NHL in 5-on-5 points per 60 minutes (3.46) and 5-on-5 assists per 60 minutes (2.30) among skaters who played at least 40 games last season. He averaged 1.35 points per game, which was tied for fifth in the NHL with Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche, and scored 48 points at 5-on-5, impressive considering he missed 14 games because of a lower-body injury. For an 82-game season, Malkin was on pace to score 110 points, which would have been the most since he scored 113 (35 goals, 78 assists) in 2008-09.

3. Shot attempts percentage

The Penguins' shot attempts percentage (51.0 percent) was ninth in the NHL last season, and their plus-115 SAT differential (3,035-2,920) was 10th. Pittsburgh was a top 10 SAT team with two skaters (forward Teddy Blueger, defenseman Marcus Pettersson) playing all 69 games, so it's feasible to suggest it could have a higher SAT percentage this season if more of its lineup stays healthy.
