SEATTLE, Wash. - July 1, 2023 -Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have signed defenseman Jimmy Schuldt to a one-year, two-way contract ($775K AAV).

Schuldt, 28, spent the entirety of the 2022-23 season with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Seattle Kraken. He totaled 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 71 regular-season games, setting AHL career highs in goals, assists and points. His 32 points were good for third among Coachella Valley defensemen and his 24 assists ranked eighth on the team. Schuldt's two shorthanded goals last season were a career best, tied for the team lead and were tied for second among all AHL defensemen. The blueliner added nine points (five goals, four assists) during the playoffs, appearing in all 26 postseason games and helping the Firebirds to reach the Calder Cup Finals. His playoff goals, assist, point and games played totals were all AHL career bests, and he also set post season career highs in power-play goals (two) and shorthanded goals (one). His nine points were good for seventh among all AHL blueliners and he was the only defenseman to score a shorthanded goal during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Schuldt, who stands at six-foot-one, 203 pounds, appeared in one NHL game for the Vegas Golden Knights during the 2018-19 season and has spent the remainder of his professional career in the AHL, making stops with the Chicago Wolves (2019-20), Henderson Silver Knights (2020-21), Rochester Americans (2021-22) and the Firebirds. He's totaled 84 points (25 goals, 59 assists) in 222 regular-season AHL games and added 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 41 postseason games.

Prior to making his professional debut, the Minnetonka, Minnesota native played four seasons (2015-16 to 2018-19) of collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University, serving as his team's captain his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. In 156 NCAA games, Schuldt totaled 118 points (38 goals, 80 assists), helping the Huskies earn a berth to the NCAA tournament in 2016, 2018 and 2019. His 156 games played are tied for the seventh most in program history. Schuldt earned a plethora of accolades during his collegiate career, beginning with his freshman season when he was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team. His junior year he earned NCHC First Team All-Star honors and was named to the NCAA West's First All-American Team en route to being named a Hobey Baker finalist, awarded annually to the top men's collegiate player. In his final collegiate season, Schuldt was again a Hobey Baker finalist while also being named the NCHC's Player of the Year, Best Defensive Defenseman and earning NCHC First All-Star Team honors. That season he was named to the Lowes Senior Class All-American Second Team and earned NCAA West First Team All-American honors.
