SEATTLE, Wash. - September 13, 2021 - Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) have signed free agent forward Ryan Donato (@DonatoRyan) to a one-year contract ($750,000 AAV).
"Ryan's hockey sense and ability to contribute on the scoresheet are two ingredients we are excited to add to our forward group," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "We like his offensive potential and believe he can add scoring depth."

The 25-year-old recorded 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 50 games with the San Jose Sharks during the 2020-21 season, ranking eighth on the team in scoring and reaching the 20-point plateau for the third consecutive season. His six power-play points (two goals, four assists) tied for fifth among all San Jose skaters and he tied for eighth on the team with 1:43 of power-play time per game.
Donato, who stands at six-foot, 192-pounds, has totaled 77 points (35 goals, 42 assists) in 180 career games with San Jose, Minnesota and Boston. Despite the shortened season in 2019-20, he scored a career high 14 goals after setting career highs in assists (15) and points (25) the previous year. Donato has also appeared in five Stanley Cup Playoff games over the course of his career - three with Boston in 2017-18 and two with Minnesota in 2019-20.
A native of Boston, Donato played three years (2015-16 to 2017-18) of collegiate hockey at Harvard University where his father, Ted, was the team's head coach. He totaled 104 career points (60 goals, 44 assists) in 97 games. Donato set collegiate career highs in goals (26) and points (43) in 2017-18 en route to being named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top men's collegiate player in the NCAA. During his tenure at Harvard, Donato earned All-Ivy League First Team honors in both 2016-17 and 2017-18 and was named the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2017-18. He left Harvard tied for 11th in program history with 60 career goals.
Donato has also represented the United States three times in international competition. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship in Finland, totaling four points (three goals, one assist) in seven games. He won a second bronze medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Sochi, tying for the tournament lead with five goals. Most recently, he played for Team USA at the 2021 IIHF World Championship in Belarus and Lativa. He was originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the second round (56th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
The Seattle Kraken will play their first game in 29 days on Oct. 12 at Vegas.
