SEATTLE (July 1, 2025) — Today, Seattle Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill announced that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Ryan Lindgren on a four-year contract ($4.5M AAV) through the 2028-2029 season.
"Ryan's a heart-and-soul player who competes every shift," said Botterill. "He does whatever it takes to win and has been a key fixture on the penalty kill throughout his career. We're excited to welcome him to the team."
Lindgren, 27, set career highs in assists (18) and points (22) and tied his personal best in goals (4) in 72 regular-season games last season. He recorded 19 points (2g/17a) in 54 games with the Rangers before he was traded to the Avalanche on March 1. At the time of the trade, Lindgren paced the Rangers in shorthanded time on ice (146:23) and ranked second among team blueliners in assists and points. Lindgren earned three points (2g/1a) in 18 regular-season contests with the Avs and added three points (all assists) in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games. He notched his 100th career point with an assist on March 8 vs. Toronto and skated in his 400th career NHL game on March 29 vs. St. Louis.
The six-foot, 194-pound blueliner has recorded 102 points (14g/88a), a +99 rating and 259 penalty minutes in 405 career regular-season games with Colorado and New York. Originally selected by Boston in the second round (49th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Lindgren was traded to the Rangers on Feb. 25, 2018 and skated in 387 career games with the club, leading them in shorthanded TOI (206:57) in 2023-24 and ranking second in the same category in 2021-22 (174:16). He's a two-time recipient (2020-21 & 2022-23) of the Players’ Player Award, which is given annually to the Ranger who, as selected by his teammates, “best exemplifies what it means to be a team player” and the 2022-23 winner of the Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award, awarded annually to the Ranger who, as chosen by the fans, "goes above and beyond the call of duty.” Lindgren has also appeared in 50 career postseason games, posting 14 points (3g/11a) and a +16 rating.
At the American Hockey League (AHL) level, Lindgren has skated in 84 career regular-season games with Hartford over parts of three seasons (2017-20), recording 18 points (3g/15a). Prior to turning pro, Lindgren played two seasons at the University of Minnesota (NCAA). He helped the Golden Gophers win the Big Ten Regular Season Championship in 2016-17 and served as an alternate captain the following year.
On the international stage, the Burnsville, Minnesota, native represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2017 and 2018, earning gold and bronze medals, respectively. He also captained Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2016 IIHF Men's U18 World Championship.
