SEATTLE, Wash. – March 6, 2024 — Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announced that they have acquired a 2024 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2025 fourth-round draft pick (previously acquired by NY Rangers from Dallas) from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Alex Wennberg. Additionally, Seattle will retain 50 percent of Wennberg’s contract.
“We want to thank Alex for his contribution to the Kraken over these last three seasons,” said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. “Alex has been with our team since day one and was an important part of establishing our franchise. We wish him well in New York.”
With the move, the Kraken now have nine selections in this year’s entry draft, which is set to take place in Las Vegas from June 28 to 29. In addition to owning six of their own seven picks, the Kraken’s selections now include New York’s second-round pick in addition to Toronto’s third-round pick (from Mark Giordano trade) and Calgary’s seventh-round pick (from Calle Jarnkrok trade).
Wennberg totaled 100 points (33 goals, 67 assists) in 222 regular-season games with the Kraken, ranking fifth on the team’s all-time scoring list, adding seven points (two goals, five assists) in 14 playoff games with Seattle last season. The Stockholm native signed with the Kraken as a free agent during the 2021 offseason.
