Starting Wednesday, Kraken fans can participate in another exciting and first-of-its-kind opportunity during the team's inaugural NHL season. The Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena, in partnership with Orange Comet, are producing and selling premium non-fungible tokens (NFTs), a game-changing form of digital sports memorabilia.
The new partnership's first "drop" of NFTs features a limited-edition collection of seven "innovative, mysterious and intense" designs capturing the ethos of the Kraken brand. One NFT will add a bit more mystery, revealing itself to the owner only after purchase.
The collection launch was slated for Monday, but last-minute issues prompted a decision to move the drop to Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific time. The team released the following statement for fans:

"The Seattle Kraken and Orange Comet share your frustration about the delayed drop of Kraken NFTs on Monday, Dec. 20. We wanted to make sure the NFTs would be as legendary as the Kraken, but due to some last-minute challenges, we were unable to launch on time.
Never fear, the first-ever Kraken NFTs are coming. Your journey into the (digital) deep begins on Wednesday (Dec. 22, 9 a.m.)."

For the less initiated, NFTs are digital assets - images, videos, music, text, even social media posts-that are being bought and sold. NFTs are stored on a "blockchain," which is effectively a virtual ledger that keeps a record of transactions on a secure network of computers.
Blockchains are open to the public, allowing anyone to verify the authenticity of the NFT and its owner. What's different about NFTs compared to most videos, designs, photos, art and other items we view on our devices, each NFT has a unique digital signature and cannot be reproduced.
Each NFT is one of a kind. Sports fans have joined the fast-growing NFT trade as a cutting-edge way to buy and potentially trade memorabilia about their favorite teams, players and leagues. NFTs can be purchased with cryptocurrency (digital money using encryption techniques to verify money creation and verify transfer of funds) or dollars.
The Orange Comet partnership will provide that entry point for Kraken fans. The limited-edition drop of NFTs will be available to purchase at a variety of price points starting at $50. Plus, there will be unique real-world opportunities for fans to win tickets to Kraken games, behind-the-scenes experiences and autographed jerseys-all connected to the NFTs.
"The Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena have been innovators since day one and take pride in the different ways we connect with our fans," said Todd Humphrey, senior vice president of digital and fan engagement for the Kraken.
"In a tech-forward and planet-conscious city like Seattle, it's an easy choice partnering with Orange Comet. We're so excited to see these one-of-a-kind NFT items come to life."
Along with designs and experiences likely to wow a wide range of Kraken fans, the partnership will importantly support both the team's and Orange Comet's missions to be carbon neutral. Orange Comet, a premium content creation company co-founded by Hollywood producer Dave Broome, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner and music icons Gloria and Emilio Estafan, uses "green" servers in all of its digital endeavors. Orange Comet's marketplace is housed on the Avalanche, a zero carbon environmentally friendly blockchain.
The Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena will donate a portion of NFT proceeds to its philanthropic One Roof Foundation. The foundation's work includes an environmental justice pillar to support and elevate the voices of the communities disproportionately impacted by climate change.
