Victor Eklund celebrated his 20th birthday in style on Saturday night.

The Swede scored his first NHL goal and while that would have been enough of a birthday gift, the crowd at UBS Arena threw him a party, serenading him by singing “Happy Birthday.”

“Best fans,” Eklund said. “I can't describe in words, [I’m] just so happy and yeah, I appreciate it so much.”

Eklund said the crowd singing to him brought some tears to his eyes.

“I was so happy,” Eklund said.

The 16th-overall pick in the 2025 Draft made it 4-0 in the third period, slipping a quick shot five-hole on Nico Daws. Eklund also recorded an assist on Brayden Schenn’s goal go make it 2-0 in the second finishing the night with two points. Eklund now has three points (1G, 2A) in three NHL games. Eklund said the first goal puck is going to go to his grandfather, who has a museum of Eklund – and his brother, William’s – hockey memorabilia.

Eklund had family in the stands on Saturday night, as his mom was in town to witness his first goal.

“I love my mom. She's the best,” Eklund said. “I thank her for being here.”

The Islanders also made sure it was a special day for Eklund, as he was dapped up by his teammates before greeting the media in the locker room. Eklund also had cakes in his locker stall.

“The guys in the room have really embraced him as a big part of our group, so those moments are special,” Head Coach Pete DeBoer said. “Nice to see that true elation on the face of a young player that's worked his whole life to make the NHL and scores in the home opener. That’s stuff you don’t take for granted.”
