Alex Ovechkin scored three times to pass Mario Lemieux and tie Steve Yzerman for 9th place on the all-time list as the Washington Capitals scored five goals in the third period to defeat the Islanders 6-4 before a sellout crowd of 13,917 at Nassau Coliseum.
It was the Great 8's 26th career hat trick, but his first against the Islanders. Ovechkin now leads all active players with 39 career goals against New York.
