The New York Islanders settled for a single point on Monday night, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Arizona Coyotes.
Anthony Beauvillier scored twice as the Islanders overcame a sluggish start to come back and force overtime, but Nick Cousins ended the game 2:21 into the extra frame.

"It's disappointing to leave here with one point," Beauvillier said. "We picked it up in the second and third, we played a strong game, but couldn't capitalize on the chances we had. I thought we adjusted really well in that game."
The Islanders first period was about as pretty as Scott Mayfield's front teeth, which were chipped in half by an errant stick Monday. The Isles were outshot 14-3 in the first period and didn't hit the net until the clock hit the midway point of the frame. They trailed 1-0 after one on Cousins' first of the night.

There was more fire and pep in the Isles in the second period and Beauvillier evened the score 34 seconds into the frame, potting his own rebound after being denied by Antti Raanta off a rush.
The Coyotes were outshooting the Islanders 23-9 by the time Brendan Perlini deflected a shot past Jaroslav Halak at 9:52. After that, the Islanders came alive, outshooting the Coyotes 25-10 on the back nine.
Beauvillier tied it 2-2 early in the third, converting a Thomas Hickey rebound past Raanta at 2:53. Beauvillier's goal was his eighth in his last seven games, marking the most productive stretch of his NHL career.
The Islanders looked to be in control, but couldn't beat Raanta for the go-ahead goal. Their best chance was in overtime, when Nick Leddy got a high wrister off within 15 feet and he and captain John Tavares took a pair of whacks at a loose rebound. When they couldn't convert, the Coyotes went back the other way, with Cousins pulling the winner around Halak.

"I didn't hate our game," Jordan Eberle added. "I know you look at the standings and you see the difference, but that's a good hockey team. They're playing loose. When you're in this situation, you play loose and try to make plays and sometimes you're a dangerous team."
Arizona has won two straight and has earned points in five consecutive games. Still, it was a disappointing result for the Islanders who wrap up their three-game trip on Thursday in Vegas.
"They played really well early. They swarmed us early and kept us out of a rhythm in the offensive zone," Head Coach Doug Weight said. "Mid-second period on, we deserved a little better. We could have easily won the game. That's the frustrating part.
