Semyon Varlamov and the New York Islanders shut out the Winnipeg Jets 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Canada Life Centre, picking up two points to protect their first wild card spot status in the Eastern Conference. The Isles swept the season series against the Jets 2-0 in a five-day span.
Bo Horvat (SHG), Alexander Romanov, Brock Nelson and Adam Pelech (EN) led the way offensively, while Varlamov stopped all 23 shots faced for his second shutout of the season and 38th of his career.

1st Period:
7:56 - NYI 1, WPG 0 SHG - Bo Horvat rushes into the Winnipeg zone shorthanded and rips a wrister from the point to beat David Rittich, who was screened by Josh Morrissey on the play.

2nd Period:
4:22 - NYI 2, WPG 0 - Casey Cizikas skated in behind the net and around the boards, circling to the point and setting up an open Alexander Romanov, who blasts a slapshot through Rittich to extend the Islanders lead. Hudson Fasching collects the secondary assist.

3rd Period:
18:41 - NYI 3, WPG 0 - Zach Parise chips the puck along the boards to feed Brock Nelson, who slips the puck through Kyle Connor's legs and rips one in the high slot for the Islanders' third goal.

17:59 - NYI 4, WPG 0 EN - Adam Pelech scores an empty net goal in an attempt to clear the puck with 2:01 left in the game. Scott Mayfield records the sole assist.

NOTEBOOK:
Josh Bailey drew into the lineup after missing four games and recorded an attempted shot and a blocked shot in 14:10 TOI… Anders Lee had a goal waved off in the first period for a high stick...
