The New York Islanders ended the preseason on a high note, downing the New York Rangers 3-1 on Saturday night at UBS Arena.
Kieffer Bellows and Mathew Barzal scored goals in the first period, while Zach Parise added an insurance marker in the third period. Ilya Sorokin stopped 28 of 29 shots in the win.
With the win, the Islanders, who iced a roster that could closely resemble their opening night lineup, wrap up the preseason with a 4-2-0 record, including four straight wins.

1st Period:
9:06 - NYI 1, NYR 0 - The Islanders score on their shot of the game. Kieffer Bellows throws a hit in the corner and skates undetected to the far side of the net where he taps in a cross-ice pass from Sebastian Aho.
16:16 - NYI 2, NYR 0 - Mathew Barzal curls off the goal line and roofs a shot from the bottom of the circle far side on Igor Shesterkin. The goal is Barzal's second in as many games. Josh Bailey with the assist.
2nd Period:
No scoring.
3rd Period:
4:28 - NYI 3, NYR 0 PPG - Anthony Beauvillier passes across the zone to Josh Bailey, who sends it cross-ice to Zach Parise in front of the net for an easy tap-in.
6:50 - NYI 3, NYR 1 - Kaapo Kakko gets the Rangers on the board, taking a pass from Braden Schneider and roofing a puck high short side over Ilya Sorokin from the left dot.

NOTEBOOK:

Ross Johnston and Jarred Tinordi set the tone for the game with an early fight... Alexander Romanov threw a big hit on Vincent Trocheck in the third period that got the attention of Jimmy Vesey... Kieffer Bellows had a team-high three hits and a team-high six shot attempts... The Islanders won 62% of faceoffs, winning 34 and losing 21. Adam Pelech played a team-high 22:39... The Islanders had 17 shot attempts blocked vs 16 on net.
