Mathew Barzal sent the New York Islanders into the All-Star Break on a high note, scoring the OT winner in a 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights at UBS Arena.
Barzal beat Logan Thompson with a wrister with 31.5 seconds to play in the extra frame, giving the Islanders their second win in as many nights.
Semyon Varlamov made a season-high 44 saves in the win, including a penalty shot in overtime, while Logan Thompson made 35 saves on the losing end of a goalie duel. Anders Lee and Will Carrier scored for the Islanders and Golden Knights respectively in regulation.

Brock Nelson extended his point streak to six games (4G, 3A)... Kyle Palmieri extended his point streak to four games (5A)... Anders Lee recorded his fifth point in his last five games (4G, 1A). Lee's goal was his 19th of the season, tying Nelson for the team lead... With an opening goal for two consecutive nights, the captain reached 50 career opening goals, surpassing Denis Potvin on the all-time list for third in franchise history... Semyon Varlamov stopped a Will Carrier penalty shot in overtime... After going nearly five years without a penalty shot against, the Islanders have had two against them in the past four games... Matt Martin had a game-high six hits... Adam Pelech played a game-high 26:41... Barzal and Nelson each had a team-high six shots on goal...
