The New York Islanders dropped their second game of the preseason 4-1 to the New Jersey Devils, falling to 0-2-0 so far in their exhibition games.
Nikita Soshnikov opened the scoring, with a breakaway goal assisted by William Dufour, but Yegor Sharangovich evened it up for the Devils late into the first period. Dougie Hamilton scored to give the Devils the lead just over a minute later.
The struggles continued for the Islanders in the second period. Jack Hughes scored under a minute in to the period to add to the Devils' lead. After a goalie change, Erik Haula scored late in the second period to pull the lead to 4-1.

First Period:
8:54 - NYI 1, NJD 0 - William Dufour springs Nikita Soshnikov, who gets behind the Devils defense and lifts the puck to the top right corner to score his first goal in an Islander uniform.
15:24 - NJD 1, NYI 1 - Yegor Sharangovich collects a loose puck in the slot and fires a quick shot past Sorokin. John Marino and Fabian Zetterlund pick up the assists.
16:42 - NJD 2, NYI 1 - Dougie Hamilton rips a point shot through traffic for the score. Jonas Siegenthaler and Michael McLeod with the assists.
Second Period:
00:52 - NJD 3, NYI 1 - Alexander Holtz wins a puck battle along the boards and finds an open Jack Hughes in the slot for the goal. Ondrej Palat also picks up an assist.
17:48 - NJD 4, NYI 1 - Miles Wood finds Erik Haula in the zone, and Haula lifts the puck top shelf for the goal. Dawson Mercer also picks up an assist.
Third Period:
No scoring.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Islanders were 0-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
