Turgeon

Pierre Turgeon got his call to the hall on Wednesday, being named as part of the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2023.

Turgeon totaled 1,327 points (515G, 812A) in 1,294 games during his 19-year career, which included 340 points in 255 games with the Islanders from 1991-95.

Turgeon's 1.33 points-per-game is second all-time in Islanders history, trailing only Mike Bossy. Turgeon is also one of four Islanders players to score 50 goals in a season, netting 58 in the 1992-93 season. Turgeon won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability, in 1993.

Turgeon becomes the eighth player in Islanders history to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, joining Denis Potvin (1991), Mike Bossy (1991), Billy Smith (1993), Bryan Trottier (1997), Clark Gillies (2002), Pat LaFontaine (2003) and Roberto Luongo (2022). Former General Manager Bill Torrey (1995), former Head Coach Al Arbour (1996) and former Scout Jim Devellano (2010) have also been inducted into the Hall of Fame in the builder category.

Tom Barrasso, Henrik Lundqvist, Mike Vernon and Caroline Ouellette join Turgeon in the player category, while Ken Hitchcock and Pierre Lacroix were inducted in the builder category.
