Doug Weight offered updates on two injured Islanders, defenseman Johnny Boychuk and forward Nikolay Kulemin.
Boychuk was a full participant in the Islanders morning skate on Monday, as he continues his recovery from a lower-body injury. The defenseman hasn't played since March 3, but Weight said a return this week is possible.
"Johnny is close, it's good to see him out there today," Weight said. "Hopefully we can get two or three really good days of practice here and see what he has for us on Thursday, maybe he'll play Thursday or Friday, that'd be great."
Kulemin sustained an upper-body injury on Friday night in Pittsburgh and is expected to miss both Thursday and Friday.
"He's got some discomfort, the plan of attack is to work every day and see if he can get back on the ice," Weight said. "It's not going to be longer than 2/3 weeks. Best case scenario would be the end of the week and I don't know that's going to happen."
