Semyon Varlamov missed Friday's game with a non-covid illness, the Islanders announced ahead of their game with the Montreal Canadiens.
With Varlamov out, Ilya Sorokin started games on consecutive nights for the second time this season, after previously pitching a pair of shutouts over Arizona and Vegas on Oct. 23-24.
Ken Appleby was emergency recalled from ECHL Worcester, as the Railers were playing in Trois-Rivieres, approximately an hour and a half drive outside of Montreal. Appleby has a 14-11-1 record with Worcester this season with a 2.89 GAA, a .918 SV% and one shutout. The netminder also owns a 1-4-4 record with Bridgeport this year with a 2.49 GAA, a .928 SV% and one shutout.
