The New York Islanders held an optional practice on Monday afternoon at PPG Paints Arena following their 4-3 overtime victory in Game 1 over the Pittsburgh Penguins the previous night. Semyon Varlamov, who missed Game 1 for precautionary purposes, skated with the members of the taxi squad.

"He's on the ice as we speak with the guys who didn't play last night," Trotz said in his post-practice media availability. "We didn't skate as a group, but we will tomorrow at morning skate. But yes, [Varlamov] is on the ice with all of our extra guys."
Ilya Sorokin received the starting nod in Game 1 - where he posted 39 saves on 42 shots in his playoff debut - and was backed up by Cory Schneider.
"We'll see where [Varlamov] is in terms of health, he's very close," Trotz said. "I trust both our goalies. That's the great thing about having Ilya. We knew that process would be slower, just the transition from the KHL...My thought process [for naming a starting goaltender] is pretty simple; we feel comfortable with whomever we have in net."
