The New York Islanders were putting in some weekend work at Northwell Health Ice Center, skating on Saturday during the team's third day of training camp.
Saturday's skate was the last full-team practice before Sunday's preseason contest vs the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Trotz did not reveal his lineup, but said his philosphy was to play more of the younger players at the Islanders camp during the first couple of preseason games.
"The first two games are really letting the kids play, giving them experience, getting our veterans ready in certain roles," Trotz said. "It's a lighter mix and a younger group and just trying to get guys ready.

"If you made a good impression or a bad impression in earlier games it'll have an impact on those next couple of games," Trotz added. "That will be the game that you either get maybe another one, or you don't get any more and we start preparing with our group."
There aren't too many young players at this year's camp, with only two prospects from the Isles' 2021 draft class (Aatu Raty and Tristan Lennox) and three from the 2019 class (Simon Holmstrom, Bolduc and Reece Newkirk). None of the Islanders 2020 picks are attending this year's camp.
