NEWKIRK POSTS FIVE POINTS IN FIRST THREE GAMES OF SEASON

Reece Newkirk and the Portland Winterhawks started their season on March 18th against the Tri-City Americans. Newkirk began his three-game point streak as he scored the second goal of the game late in the first period.
The Islanders' 2019 fifth rounder (147th overall) went on to pick up another two points (1G, 1A) in Portland's next game against the Seattle Thunderbirds on March 20. Newkirk scored on the power play, which became the eventual game-winning goal in the Winterhawks' 4-1 victory over Seattle.
The center's hot streak didn't end there. Newkirk recorded another two points (1G, 1A) in a 4-3 win in Portland's home opener against the Spokane Chiefs. The Moose Jaw, SK native fed a shorthanded assist during the second period. Newkirk netted a shorthanded goal in the third period that aged as the game winner.
Newkirk is currently ranked first in game-winning goals and second in shorthanded goals in the league. The Portland Winterhawks currently sit in first place in the WHL standings with a record of 2-0-1.


ADAMS, NORTH DAKOTA RANKED NO. 1 IN NCAA TOURNAMENT

Collin Adams dished out two assists in the North Dakota Fighting Hawks' 5-3 win over the St. Cloud State Huskies during the NCHC championship game on March 16th. With the win, North Dakota became the first school to win the NCHC regular season and tournament championship in the same season. Adams had a hand in the second and fourth goals of the game, bringing his season total of assists up to 20.
The Islanders' 2016 sixth rounder (170th overall) registered 31 points (11G, 20A) through 27 regular-season games. The Fighting Hawks have come out of their last three games victorious and now hold first overall in the NCHC and the NCAA standings with a record of 21-5-1.
Adams was named to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament team.
Following the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night, North Dakota was awarded the No. 1 overall seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament. The Fighting Hawks journey to the 2021 Division l national championship begins on Friday night at 9:30 pm ET as they take on the Atlantic Hockey champion American International (15-3-0) in the Fargo Regional.


ISKHAKOV RECORDS TWO POINTS

Ruslan Iskhakov brought his season assists total to 25 in the TPS game against Tappara on March 16th.
Iskhakov posted an assist in the first period to contribute to the 4-2 victory. On the 19th, the Moscow native netted the fifth goal of the game and his ninth goal of the season, in a 5-1 win over the Lahti Pelicans. TPS is currently ranked third overall in the Liiga standings with a record of 24-16-11.
