The New York Islanders will continue their fight against cancer, that will culminate with the annual Hockey Fights Cancer game at Barclays Center on Sunday, Nov. 18, when the team hosts the Dallas Stars at 1:00 p.m. The team will wear a special lavender jersey during warmups that fans had the chance to bid on in an auction prior to the game. The auction for the jerseys ran from Oct. 18 - Nov. 8 with all of the proceeds benefitting the cancer awareness campaign.

In addition to the specialty jerseys, Islander players will wear Hockey Fights Cancer, pins and ties. The coaching staff and MSG Network on-air talent will wear the same ties and pins during the game. Several Islanders players will also tape their sticks with lavender hockey tape for warmups.
Sunday afternoon's Hockey Fights Cancer game is the team's primary game for Hockey Fights Cancer month, which raises awareness and money to support the ongoing fight to end cancer.The November 18 Hockey Fights Cancer game will include a ceremonial puck drop that features a group of children that have both overcome their cancer diagnosis' and those that are still battling. The Islanders held Childhood Cancer Awareness game on Oct. 8, Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Nov. 1 and Men's Cancer/ Prostate Cancer Awareness Night on Nov. 5. The Islanders plan to hold Blood Cancer Awareness Night on Nov. 24.

In conjunction with "Stand Up to Cancer", fans in attendance on Nov. 18 will have the opportunity to tell everyone who they "Stand Up For" during an in-game place card recognition presentation. "Stand Up to Cancer" is a groundbreaking initiative created to accelerate innovative cancer research that provides new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.
The Islanders will also host children battling cancer at each game throughout the entire month.
Throughout the month of November children undergoing treatment for cancer will be invited to Islanders home games and be given special VIP experiences through some of our game night programs. The Islanders worked with the following organizations to help select children: Cohen Children's Hospital, Stony Brook Hospital and Cancer Center, Candlelighter's, EnCourage Kids Foundation, Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Starlight Children's Foundation, Make a Wish Foundation and Ronald McDonald House of NY and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Islanders have invited various cancer fighting organizations to help raise awareness and fundraise for their organizations throughout the months of October and November. Each group has been invited to distribute information to fans at the game while educating fans about specific organizations. These groups include, Alex's Lemonade Stand, The Michael Magro Foundation, Susan G. Komen Greater NYC, Fans for a Cure, Stand Up to Cancer, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and DKMS.
