NEW YORK ISLANDERS (11-13-6) VS PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (13-17-7)7:30 PM | UBS ARENA | BUY TICKETSWATCH: MSG+ | MSG GO | ESPN+LISTEN: 88.7FM| 103.9FM | 98.7FM
The New York Islanders take on the Philadelphia Flyers in a home-and-home, back-to-back set, with the first leg taking place on Monday night at UBS Arena.

It'll be a crucial pair of games for the Metropolitan Division opponents, who are both in desperate need of points to try and climb the standings from their current positions. The Islanders (28 points) enter the game in eighth place while the Flyers (33 points) are in sixth, though the Isles have seven games in hand.
The Islanders were shut out 2-0 by the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon. Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves on 35 shots in the loss. It was a "disappointing" result and effort from the Islanders as noted by Islanders Associate Coach Lane Lambert following the game, which snapped the Islanders' prior three-game winning streak.
"I was disappointed with the result and a little bit disappointed with our execution," Lane Lambert said. "I didn't think we made a lot of plays, and weren't handling the puck the way we could, should, or normally would."
In eight meetings last season against the Flyers, only two of the results were decided in regulation. The Flyers won the first three games of the regular-season series, including twice in overtime, while the Islanders won the final five games, including twice in overtime and twice in a shootout.
Philadelphia enters this matchup desperate for a win as well after the team lost its seventh-straight game following a 3-2 result to the New York Rangers on Saturday night. Both teams have dug themselves into a hole in the standings, so it only emphasizes the magnitude of these two upcoming games between the clubs.
"We're in a hole. We've got to dig ourselves out," Scott Mayfield said. "It's tough. We've got to get those points, we've got to start racking up wins, racking up points. We didn't today."

WSH 2 vs NYI 0 : Lane Lambert

      FLYERS NOTES:

      • Lindblom scored his fifth goal of the season in the loss to the Rangers. With the goal, the forward improved his point production to 11 points (5G, 6A) through 36 games.
      • York scored his first-career NHL goal in the loss to the Rangers. The defenseman - and Flyers' 2019 first round (14th overall) pick - now has two points (1G, 1A) through five games this season.
      • Cam Atkinson had his five-game point streak come to an end. The winger had totaled eight points (3G, 5A) during that stretch. Atkinson has produced 28 points (15G, 13A) through 37 games this season with Philadelphia.
      • Hart made his 23rd start of the season and has a 7-12-4 record, a 2.94 GAA, a .911 SV% and one shutout this season.
      • Per the Flyers' website, the team is 11-2-5 when scoring first and 2-15-2 when allowing the first goal.
      • Philadelphia had a busy offseason as they acquired forwards Atkinson, Nate Thompson and former Islander Derick Brassard. They also picked up defensemen Ryan Ellis and Kieth Yandle.
      • Brassard returned to the lineup on Jan. 6 after being placed in COVID-19 protocols and also being previously sidelined with a 'nagging hip injury.' That hip injury has continued to sideline the veteran forward since and he was placed on injured reserve on Jan. 15 with no timeline of a possible return. Brassard has 11 points (4G, 7A) through 19 games with the Flyers.
      • In addition to Brassard, the Flyers are also without Sean Couturier (week-to-week upper body), Ellis (lower body) and Thompson (shoulder).
