Butch-Day-12

Number 91 was raised to the toy department!
Butch Goring had his number retired by the Islanders on Saturday morning, becoming the eighth player in team history to earn such an honor. It was long overdue and an acknowledgment of his contributions to the team as a player, broadcaster and coach. See below for sights, sounds and videos from Butch's big day.

PRE-CEREMONY:

Fans came out early to support Butch.

So did a bunch of legends.

CEREMONY:

Butch delivered an emotional, eloquent speech, thanking his family, teammates, fans and the Islanders organization for their support and for helping him get his number raised to the rafters. He was presented with a framed jersey, a collage of some of his memorable Islanders moments and a golf trip to Augusta National. (Safe to say some of his teammates were itching to be his caddy.)
