STATE OF THE PACIFIC
Despite Sunday's loss, the Golden Knights still maintain the top spot in the Pacific Division with 80 points. The Oilers continue to hold second place with 76 points while the Calgary Flames have nosed their way into third with 75 points. Vancouver occupies the first wildcard spot with 74 points with Arizona lurking just two points behind them.
OPPOSITION UPDATE
The Devils have had far from a dream season as they sit in last in the Metropolitan Division with 64 points through 65 games. Things have picked up of late for New Jersey with a 6-2-2 record in their last 10 games, but the team is 14 points out of a playoff berth.
Kyle Palmieri's 43 points (23G, 20A) are the most on the team with Nikita Gusev close behind at 42 points (12G, 30A). Gusev, who joined the Golden Knights late last season but never appeared in a game, is on a six-game point streak heading into Tuesday's game.
KEYS TO THE GAME
Don't Change Much: Aside from the result on Sunday, Golden Knights players said they were pleased with the team's effort. They outshot the Kings 43-17 and a repeat of that effort should spell success for Vegas.
Score the First Goal: Reilly Smith said the team doesn't like to play "catch-up hockey" when it falls behind. Getting that first goal and piling on eliminates that problem.
