Haula

In the wake of the NFL playoff last weekend, the breathtaking conclusion to the Minnesota Vikings' 29-24 win over the New Orleans Saints had us thinking.
Not about football. But about the chant that the Vikings' crowd participates.
SKOL!

Haula, a native of Finland who played high school, college and NHL hockey in Minnesota, is also a huge Vikings fan. And as Nate Schmidt put it to us: "Haula's an actual Viking," and suggested we check with the adopted Minnesotan.
So ahead of the Vikings' meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship later this afternoon, we asked Haula to explain the Vikings' SKOL chant to us.
"The first time I saw it the Iceland team did it, the soccer team," Haula said. "Just the whole country. It's something to unite everybody together.

"SKOL basically means 'Go Vikings.'
SKOL sounds so much more interesting, doesn't it?
Of course, Schmidt and Haula won't be watching the Vikings' game today, with the Golden Knights' meeting with the Carolina Hurricanes occurring at the same time. Although should the Vikings win today, they would become the first team ever to play a Super Bowl in their home stadium, which despite Vegas playing the Washington Capitals that day, would see the Golden Knights in Minnesota to play the Wild earlier on Super Bowl weekend.
Which if Schmidt and Haula's reaction to last week's thrilling Vikings win over the Saints is any indication, could lead to all sorts of shenanigans.
"We were kind of moping on the table (when they were behind) and then we jumped up," Haula said. "We were at the D, after the Fan Fest. We went a little crazy. That was one of the most dramatic finishes I have seen ever."
"I think Haula was grabbing people, like Happy Gilmore," Schmidt said. "Choking people.
"I just think, in general, it was too much for me. I went absolutely bonkers. It was awesome. There were some other Vikings fans there. I get emotional just thinking about it."
