All five Flames players at the 2019 IIHF World Championship were in action on Friday in Slovakia:

USA 1, SLOVAKIA 4

Johnny Gaudreau, Derek Ryan, Noah Hanifin, and the USA dropped their first match-up of the tournament, falling 4-1 to Slovakia. The host nation scored three goals in the final two periods, icing their first victory on home ice. Gaudreau put in 18:09 of ice time, Ryan had one shot in 10:29 of ice time, and Hanifin put one shot on net while logging 20:21. The USA's next game comes on Sunday when they take on France.

Michael Frolik scored the game-winner in the Czech Republic's 5-2 win over Elias Lindholm and Sweden on Friday. In addition to his goal, Frolik had three shots in his 20:40 of ice time. Lindholm was credited with four shots in his 18:09 of ice time. The Czechs are back in action on Saturday against Norway while Sweden's next game comes on Sunday against Italy.
