new-toff

Make it seven straight wins for the Flames.
New addition Tyler Toffoli scored an incredible goal in his Flames debut, as Calgary skated to a 6-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Erik Gudbranson, Elias Lindholm, Matthew Tkachuk , Dillon Dube and Adam Ruzicka also scored for the homeside, who improved to 27-13-6 this season.
Toffoli's tally was an absolute gem and sent a jolt of electricity through the raucous crowd. Johnny Gaudreau flipped the puck high into the offensive zone on a line change and Toffoli, who had just come out, chased it down, cut in front of two defenders and on one leg, put a backhand home at 11:04 of the third period.
The C of Red acknowledged the debut goal with a lengthy 'Tyler Toffoli' chant after the ensuing faceoff and later, again, after a TV timeout.
Gaudreau had a pair of assists in the win and is now just one away from passing Mark Giordano (366) for fifth in franchise history.
The Flames current run of consecutive victories in the longest in the NHL right now as they continue to get contributions from up-and-down their lineup, outscoring the competition 35-8 during that span.
Dan Vladar, who last played on Feb. 1 coming in to backstop the third period in a come-from-behind win over the Dallas Stars, got the victory in his first start since Jan. 7.
He was sharp when he needed to be, turning aside 18 shots as he improved to 7-3-1 on the season. Elvis Merzlikins got the start at the other end of the ice, making 35 saves.
The last time these two clubs met was back on Jan. 26 in Ohio when the Flames blanked the Blue Jackets 6-0 as they fired a franchise record 62 shots on net.
They didn't waste too much time picking up right where they left off.
Erik Gudbranson snapped a long-distance wrist-shot through traffic at 17:50 that beat Merzlikins just 2:10 in, Milan Lucic getting the helper.

Vladar made a nice stop on the Jackets' fifth shot, slamming together the pads to deny Columbus captain Boone Jenner in tight.
Later in the frame, he came across to rob Gustav Nyquist's one-timer attempt, the Columbus forward looking skyward and shaking his head.
The Flames came close to making it 2-0 when Rasmus Andersson stepped into an absolute howitzer off a rush, the clang after it hit the post reverberating through the 'Dome.
Lindholm got credited for his 19th of the season at 16:30, his centring pass attempt for Andersson swatted into the net by Columbus blueliner Andrew Peeke.

The visitors made it a one-goal game 1:20 later, Adam Boqvist finishing off a play by beating Vladar high glove-side.
The Flames had a pair of powerplays in the middle stanza but couldn't convert.
But with 4:16 left in the frame, Tkachuk finished off a lovely passing play between him and Gaudreau to pot his 22nd of the campaign.

Andrew Mangiapane won a puck battle up high in the Flames zone while on the PK, getting the puck to Dube and joining him a 2-on-1 rush with less than a minute left in the second, Dube holding and wristing one over the glove of Merzlikins.

Ruzicka skated into the zone and put one five-hole at 6:39 of the third for his second goal in as many games, with Trevor Lewis and Nikita Zadorov getting the helpers.
The Blue Jackets answered back at 8:08, with Zach Werenski making it a three-goal game again, before Toffoli rounded out the scoring.

WAY TO GO, GENTS!

THEY SAID IT:

TYLER TOFFOLI ON CROWD CHANTING HIS NAME:
"It was pretty cool, but at the same time a little embarrassing for myself. Ras (Rasmus Andersson) was all over me in the room. A little embarrassing. ... Honestly, it was amazing. but I hope they don't do it again (laughs)."

"It was obviously pretty cool"

ON WHIRLWIND OF A DAY:
"Obviously, coming to a really good team playing really good hockey right now was exiting. Playing good hockey and playing with a lead, and doing all the little things that makes a team successful. It was just another one of those nights."
DILLON DUBE ON HIS GOAL:
"I was looking to pass. Mang has (had) the hot hand all year, so I wanted to give him the puck. I'll take my chances giving him the puck. But the guy took away the lane, I shot it and it went in. Our line was playing (well), to build that and the momentum was going strong, so it was good to get that."

"It's my role to be ready every single time"

DAN VLADAR ON CROWD CHANTING TOFFOLI'S NAME:
"As a player, you get goosebumps, even though it's not your name. He's a great player. I saw him at the morning skate, he scored a couple times on me and I was like, 'Wow, this guy's got a good shot.' It's going to help him right away that he scored in the first game and the whole team is just super excited that we got him."

Coach on big win, Toffoli scoring, and more

DARRYL SUTTER'S THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:
"I think it's important against a young team like that. I think they'd won four in a row on the road and played really well since the last time we played them, actually. Was important to try and come out and play our game and score the first goal. Similar to the last game we played against them, quite honest. We scored goals at pivotal times. The first goal, that short-handed goal at the end of the second, was important."
