Brendan Parker sets up today's matinee tilt

US

Five different goalscorers powered the Flames to a 5-4 matinee victory over the Penguins in Pittsburgh Saturday to close out their four-game road swing. Andrew Mangiapane - with his second career tally - opened the scoring in the first period of a game in which the Flames never trailed. Michael Frolik, Austin Czarnik, Travis Hamonic and Sam Bennett gave the visitors a 5-2 edge after 40 minutes but the Pens pushed hard in the third, with Evgeni Malkinscoring twice on the powerplay making it a nailbiter down to the final horn. Mike Smith turned aside 34 of 38 shots and will start today against the Coyotes, as per head coach Bill Peters following Sunday's practice at the Scotiabank Saddledome … The Flames play their next three games at home and will look to get on another winning streak after dropping four of their last five, albeit two in a shootout that earned them a couple of points. "Nice to get back here and hopefully get home-ice advantage and string along some wins," said Gaudreau Sunday.

"Nice to get back here."

THEM

The Coyotes have some bite to them right now. They are coming off an impressive 2-0 home shutout of the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Galchenyuk and Josh Archibald both scored in the second period, while Darcy Kuemper made 22 saves. It was their second win in three games, including a 5-2 road win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb. 12. Sandwiched inbetween was a 4-0 setback to the surging St. Louis Blues on Feb. 14 at home … Keller, the club's 2016 first-round pick (seventh overall), continues to impress, leading the club in points (38). He is currently tied for second in goals (11) with six teammates. He notched 23 markers and 65 points last year in his first full NHL season.

US vs. THEM

The Flames have thoroughly dominated the Desert Dogs so far this season, winning 6-1 in Arizona on Nov. 25 before laying another thumping on them, this time by a 7-1 final, Jan. 13 at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Noah Hanifin and Mark Jankowski each scored twice in the first outing, with Smith stopping 28 of the 29 shots he faced. In the second go-'round, Mark Giordano and Matthew Tkachuk both collected a pair with Smith making 22 stops. Clearly the Coyotes will have a score to settle this time around: "It's going to be a tough game for sure," said Mikael Backlund Sunday. "They're gonna want to come in and play a lot better than they did last time here." … These two clubs will meet for the fourth and final time this year on March 7 in Arizona.
