The Ducks opened their 2018 preseason schedule with a 4-1 loss against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Tuesday night. Anton Rodin scored the lone goal for the Ducks, who held a 1-0 lead early in the second period before the Sharks answered with four unanswered tallies - two of which from Ivan Chekhovich. Rourke Chartier and Barclay Goodrow also scored for San Jose.

Jared Coreau and Kevin Boyle split duties between the pipes for Anaheim. Coreau started the game and finished with 18 saves on 19 shots in 31:22 TOI. Boyle finished with 18 saves on 20 shots. Antoine Bibeau went the distance for San Jose, stopping 21 of 22 shots.
Rodin's goal came at the 4:30 mark of the second period when he pounced on a loose puck in the slot and sent a shot over a sprawled Bibeau with a nifty toe drag to corral the puck. It came on Anaheim's third power play of the game, a slashing penalty to Sharks veteran defenseman Brenden Dillon.
The Sharks responded with 7:37 remaining in the middle frame when Chartier capitalized on a Ducks turnover behind the net. As Coreau tried to send the puck around the boards from behind the net, his pass tipped off a stick and caromed into the slot, where Chartier was left uncovered.
Chekhovich gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead with 4:35 left in the second period when he found space between the faceoff dots and buried a rebound chance in front of Boyle, who came on in relief of Coreau, who played the first 31:22.
Goodrow scored the insurance marker with 1:49 remaining in regulation to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead, and Chekhovich earned his second goal of the night as the clock wound down.
Anaheim's preseason schedule continues on Thursday when it hosts the Sharks at Honda Center at 7 p.m. PT. The game will be televised locally on Prime Ticket.
