Preview: Ducks Look for Back-to-Back Wins Tonight vs. Vegas

Fresh off a thrilling shootout win over the rival Kings, the Ducks get right back to work today, hosting the Vegas Golden Knights at Honda Center (7 p.m.; TV: Bally Sports West; Radio: AM 830 KLAA). Anaheim has won two of its last three games and sits third in the Pacific Divsion by points (27) and point percentage (.587).

The Ducks return home down the I-5 after a late night at Staples Center, winning the first meeting of this season's Freeway Faceoff. Four different Ducks scored and Kevin Shattenkirk buried the shootout-winner to earn the extra standings point.

Anaheim could be without captain Ryan Getzlaf in tonight's meeting with Vegas. Getzlaf left last night's game in the first period following an awkward collision along the boards and did not return. Getzlaf ranks sixth in the NHL, and leads the Ducks, in assists.
The win in Los Angeles improved Anaheim to 2-0-1 in the first half of back-to-backs this season. The Ducks are still looking for their first win of the year on the second leg of consecutive games (0-1-1).
The Ducks and Golden Knights meet for the second of a four-game season series. The first matchup required a shootout after a furious third-period three-goal rally by the Ducks forced overtime. Getzlaf helped spark that comeback with a record-tying point, matching Teemu Selanne as Anaheim's all-time leading scorer with an assist to Troy Terry.

Scoring in two of his last three games, Terry is tied for fifth among league leaders in goals (14) and tied for ninth in points (14-10=24).

The Golden Knights visit Anaheim sitting fifth in the Pacific Division (12-9-0, 24 points). Vegas has dealt with injuries up and down its lineup early in the season as Jonathan Marchessault, Max Pacioretty, Mark Stone and Alec Martinez have all missed time in the opening two months of action.
Vegas also acquired All-Star center Jack Eichel from Buffalo in November. Eichel underwent disc replacement surgery following the trade and is expected to miss about three months.
The Ducks and Golden Knights will meet again to close the 2021 calendar year, playing a New Year's Eve matinee at T-Mobile Arena.
